Live poultry vaccine for the prevention of Newcastle disease in fowls.

COMPOSITION

Freeze-dried live attenuated NDV 6/10 strain of Newcastle disease virus 10⁶∙⁵ EID₅₀/dose.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Use only as directed.

Fowls can be vaccinated at a minimum age of one-day-old.
Do not open and reconstitute the vaccine until ready to start vaccination.

Eyedrop method
Dissolve the contents of the vial in the diluent (saline solution) supplied. Administer with the use of an appropriate standardized dropper.
Introduce one drop into an eye and nostril of the fowl. The drop should be allowed to spread evenly across the surface of the eye. Do not release the fowl until a swallowing motion is noticed. Ensure that the fowl inhales the drop into its nostril.

Drinking water method
Withhold drinking water from the fowls for approximately one to two hours (depending on the ambient temperature) before vaccination to ensure that they are thirsty.
The water troughs should be thoroughly cleaned before administering the vaccine, but disinfectants should not be used, as residues would destroy the vaccine virus.

Drinking troughs should be free from disinfecting solutions and medications 48 hours prior to vaccination and for 24 hours after vaccination.
Dissolve the contents of the vial in a small volume of clean, cool, non-chlorinated water.

Once reconstituted, mix into the required volume of drinking water according to the number and age of the fowls, season and environmental temperature.

Dried skim milk powder should be used to stabilize the vaccine virus. It should be dissolved in the water at a rate of 0,2% (2 g/L) before the vaccine is added. Distribute the vaccine-treated water so that all fowls have an opportunity to drink. Do not give other drinking water until the vaccine-medicated water has been consumed.

Spray-method
Dissolve the contents of the vial in cool, clean, non-chlorinated water.
The vials of freeze-dried vaccine should be opened under water.
The spray apparatus should be dedicated for use for vaccination purposes and should be free from corrosion, sediments and traces of disinfectants.
Dissolve 1000 doses per litre of water and set the nozzle to produce fine droplets.
The vaccine-medicated water should be sprayed evenly over the correct number of fowls, at a distance of 30 - 40 cm, preferably when the fowls are sitting together in dim light.
